Mass Stranding of Pilot Whales in Redington Beach

On Monday July 29th, a mass stranding of 5 pilot whales stranded on Redington Beach. Dr. Walsh of the UF Aquatic Animal Health Program, provided veterinary assistance in collaboration with Clearwater Marine Aquarium, NOAA, and FWC organizations towards the rescue of these animals. Three of the whales were taken out to deeper waters and are currently being monitored by researchers to make sure they stays out of the shallows. The remaining two were taken to Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s new rehab facility at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs. They hope to release them as soon as possible.
